And of course, such visits are even more important if you aren’t nearly as meticulous with your oral hygiene routine! Why Choose Fantastic Smiles for Preventive Dentistry?

Dental Checkups & Teeth Cleanings

At the beginning of your visit, Dr. Marable or one of our trained hygienists will perform an oral examination of your mouth. This gives us an idea of how healthy your oral tissues and dental structures are. We can then start removing plaque and calculus from the teeth using special instruments. Calculus is hardened in place, so you wouldn’t be able to remove it on your own; we can gently break it up so that it can be removed without damaging the actual tooth.

Fluoride Treatments

Did you know that every day, the enamel protecting your teeth loses and regains some of its minerals? Tooth decay is the result of too much demineralization without enough remineralization. Fortunately, fluoride can speed up the remineralization process and improve your teeth’s resistance to acids and other factors that can lead to decay. If you happen to be at a higher-than-average risk for cavities, we can include a topical fluoride treatment as part of one of your regular preventive visits.

Oral Cancer Screenings

Older men and tobacco users tend to have the greatest risk for oral cancer, but this deadly disease can still affect virtually anyone. Having it identified early is extremely important; treating it before it spreads can significantly improve your odds of survival over the next five years. During your checkup, we’ll let you know if we find any lumps, discolored patches, or other symptoms that might point towards oral cancer. Let us know if you’ve noticed other concerning signs such as difficulty chewing or swallowing.
